Two teams that have endured an indifferent start to IPL 9 will go head-to-head in Match 17 as Delhi Daredevils welcome Mumbai Indians to the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground.
Both teams have picked up four points thus far – albeit Mumbai have played two matches more than Delhi – and so for them in particular this fixture has taken on added significance. The Daredevils, meanwhile, have won two on the bounce courtesy of some destructive batting from Quinton de Kock, so they will be keen to carry that momentum on.
Match Betting Preview
Delhi fluffed their lines somewhat in their opener against the Kolkata Knight Riders, but since then they have powered back to form with dominant victories over the Kings XI Punjab and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
They have been okay in the field, but it is their batting – particularly De Kock, who has bludgeoned 184 runs in just three innings to date – that has caught the eye.
The great news for their supporters is that Shreyas Iyer, one of the standout batsmen of IPL 8, is yet to fire. When he does, it could be bad news for their opponents.
On paper, the Mumbai Indians side is a fantastic outfit, but as we know sport is very rarely played on paper and so their big names need to start coming to the party sooner rather than later.
Three paltry scores when trying to set a target have been easily chased down, and yet when they have batted second they have hunted down scores of 170/7 and 187/5. Will the real Mumbai Indians please stand up?
Typically, the Feroz Shah Kotla hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Delhi: they won just three of seven there in IPL 8 (42.8%) and the year prior to that they lost all of their five outings on home soil.
Also, it would be unfair to call the Daredevils a one man team, but how would they have fared without the pyrotechnics of De Kock?
Mumbai, possess a batting line-up where four or more of their stars could shine, and a bowling unit containing the penetrative Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell McClenaghan (current Purple Cap wearer) and the wily Tim Southee.
Delhi are tempting at 2.15 with Betfair given what they have shown so far, but this could be the day that it all clicks for Mumbai. At 1.72 with Bet365, they are a must back.

Top Batsmen – 3 Top Selections
- By the law of averages, De Kock should ‘fail’ with the bat here. He’s in red hot form, but T20 cricket by its very nature dictates that an early wicket is just around the corner. Betfair Education is a great place to learn the basics of cricket betting in the IPL .
- With that in mind, let’s back Shreyas Iyer at 4.50 with Betfair to top score for the Daredevils….he’s too good to be out of form for much longer, and will surely enjoy himself back on home soil for the first time in IPL 9.
- You could make a case for four or five batsmen in the Mumbai side to top score, but in the past few months it is Jos Buttler who has really caught the eye with his innovative strokeplay and powerful ball striking. At 5.50 odds with Bet365, he is irresistible.
Buttler, Rohit Sharma, Parthiv Patel, Kieron Pollard, Ambati Rayadu….is there a unit more capable of clearing the rope than that in IPL 9? It seems unlikely, and given the shrewd nature of the Mumbai bowling attack surely the boys in blue will deliver more maximums than the Daredevils.
They can be backed to do so at a generous 2.05 with Bet365.
This should the game that Mumbai come to life – and that will bring with it plenty of big hitting. Back them to win the match and strike more sixes than Delhi.
