The Indian selectors recently announced the 15 member squad for the T20 World Cup that will take place in March 2016 and there were a number of fringe players who never made the cut and had reason to be disappointed. Most of these players will celebrate the 2016 IPL auction as many of the franchises decided to pay over and above their base prices to buy some of these Indian T20 stars who were unlucky not to be a part of the World Cup squad.
Some of the Indian players who had a great day at the IPL auction included left handed batsman Yuvaraj Singh who was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for 5.5 crores when his base price was listed as 2 crores; Ishant Sharma who does not feature in the T20 format for India but was still considered a great buy by the new franchise the Rising Pune Supergiants who paid 3.8 lakhs for him when his base priced was listed at 2 crores; Ashish Nehra who was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for 5.5 crores when his base priced was listed at 2 crores and wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson who was bought by the Delhi Daredevils for 4.2 crores when his base price was listed at 2 crores.
There were a number of Indian players who were also bought for exactly their base price as they did not get a lot of bids from other franchises. Some of them include all-rounder Irfan Pathan who was bought for his base price of 1 crore by the Rising Pune Supergiants; Dhawal Kulkarni who was bought for a base price of 2 crores by new the new franchise the Gujarat Lions, Stuart Binny who was bought for his base price of 2 crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Abhimanyu Mithun bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for his base price of 30 lakhs and RP Singh who was picked up by the Rising Pune Supergiants for a base price of 30 lakhs.
There were also a quite a few players who haven’t been a part of the Indian squad for a long time but yet managed to get a great offer at the IPL. Some of these players include Praveen Kumar who had a base price of 50 lakhs but was bought by the Gujarat Lions for 3.5 crores, Mohit Sharma who had a base price of 1.5 lakhs but was bought by the Kings XI Punjab for 6.5 crores, Karun Nair who had a base price of just 10 lakhs but was bought by the Delhi DareDevils for 4 crores and Rishabh Pant who had a base price of 10 lakhs who was also bought by the Delhi DareDevils for 1.9 crores.
