One of the biggest tournament winners and leading poker earners of all time, Sam Trickett has recently become the ambassador for India’s Starpoker.in. The deal also makes him the face of the country’s fast growing online poker industry. The high profile player, who has amassed a fortune to the tune of $20 million with his poker earnings, gained international recognition after his massive success in top league events like WSOP’s Big One for ONE DROP. The brand ambassador of Everest Poker until 2015, Trickett has now entered into an agreement with StarPoker to build the brand’s image in India.
In a statement, Sam Trickett stated, “I am excited to represent the Indian poker industry’s authentic poker brand and look forward to promoting poker in India alongside the Starpoker.in team and to interacting with our players online as well”. In his role as brand ambassador, the successful gamer will be the spokesperson for StarPoker, and represent the gaming website at various events the world over, though the exact itinerary is still not clear at the moment.
Launched in October 2015 with the backing of Cyber Gaming Technologies Private Limited, StarPoker offers a myriad range of tournaments and cash games. The online gaming company, whose top priorities are user data protection and risk management, also aims to provide a “complete and holistic” experience to beginners on its specially designed platform.
In the past, Trickett has represented numerous websites in the poker industry, including top league online gaming rooms like Everest Poker and Titan Poker. However, those web gaming companies had already established their reputation prior to signing Trickett, and are giants in the iGaming market. This is the first time the champion online gamer has been associated with a startup company based in India. The country is an emerging market and StarPoker wants to leverage Trickett’s reputation in the industry to bring brand recognition and popularity among online poker players in India.
The online poker industry is slowly gaining popularity as more states in the country contemplate legalizing the online gambling industry. There are also a number of Indian poker players such as Nipun Java, Aditya Agarwal, and Vivek Rajkumar who have won more than $500,000 from their online poker games. Online poker websites in India are planning to launch a number of high stake tournaments in 2016 and brands like StarPoker believe that brand ambassadors like Sam Trickett will help to increase and grow the popularity of online poker in India.
