Vivian Richards Says Virat Kohli Already an ODI Legend

Virat KoholiVirat Kohli might only be 26-years-old, but Vivian Richards says that he is already a One Day International (ODI) legend. Seeing Kohli at the bat, and the levels that he has already achieved, makes it clear that he is no ordinary player.

Vivian Richards is a Caribbean cricket legend. He played for the West Indies’ when the squad won the World Cup in both 1975 and in 1979. He was considered to be the top batsman in his time. Vivvian Richards played in 187 One Day Internationals. In that time he scored 6,721 runs and had an average of 47.

Richards was listing who he considers to be the top 10 One Day International batsmen.

It was no surprise that Sachin Tendulkar headed the list, after which he listed fellow Caribbean players Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, and Clive Lloyd. Next came Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden from Australia, after which he listed Virender Sehwag from India. Next came Australia’s Michael Hussey, and then A.B. de Villiers from South Africa. Last on the list, and definitely not least, is Virat Kohli.

In Richards’ words, “The last name on my list, but not the least by any means, is young Virat Kohli. There might be some surprise regarding this pick because he is very young and has a lot of cricket to play still. But in my eyes, he is already legendary.”

Kohli has already reached a total of 6,232 runs in just 150 matches. Kohli also has 30 fifties with an average standing at 51.50. Richards went on to explain that even though Kohli is so young, he is extremely confident when playing limited overs. He further noted that Kohli has that even though he plays well in Tests, he seems to play far better in ODI cricket.

As Richards said: “I really like his aggressive style in ODI cricket.”

Richards is sure that Kohli has the ability to get better and better at batting.

He enthused: “Look at the way he started his career, and the batsman he has already become today. He is simply magnificent in whatever little time he has played as compared to others. He is only going to get better and beter, and add to his list of achievements.”

The cricket world is certainly keeping an eye on India’s Virat Kohli, watching what heights he has yet to reach.
